General Submissions

North Main welcomes original writing, opinions, local stories, photographs, artwork, and other community-focused work for possible publication.

You do not need to be a professional writer. We are interested in thoughtful submissions from residents, readers, local organizations, students, business owners, and anyone with a meaningful perspective to share.

What Can I Submit?

Local Voices

Short perspectives, community observations, neighborhood concerns, recognition of local people, or responses to issues affecting local readers.

Suggested length: Up to 300 words

Articles and Features

Longer articles, commentary, interviews, local history, business or nonprofit features, lifestyle pieces, and community stories.

Suggested length: Up to 600 words unless otherwise approved

Letters to the Editor

Focused responses to something published in North Main or opinions about matters affecting the community.

Suggested length: Up to 300 words

Creative Work

Original photography, artwork, cartoons, poetry, personal essays, and other creative work may also be considered.

Before You Submit

Submissions should generally relate to Scranton, Lackawanna County, Northeastern Pennsylvania, or a topic with clear relevance to North Main readers.

Please make sure that:

• The submission is your original work.

• Names, dates, quotations, and factual claims have been checked.

• Any relevant personal, professional, political, or financial connection is disclosed.

• Previously published work is clearly identified.

• You have permission to submit any photographs, artwork, or other material created by someone else.

Submitting work does not guarantee publication. North Main may edit accepted submissions for grammar, clarity, length, formatting, and publication style.

Payment

General community submissions are currently unpaid unless compensation, a contest prize, or a commissioned assignment is specifically offered in advance.
